Nanu Ki Jaanu: A Horror-Comedy That Fails To Deliver
Nanu Ki Jaanu is a 2018 Bollywood movie starring Abhay Deol and Patralekha in the lead roles. The movie is directed by Faraz Haider and produced by Sajid Qureshi. The movie is supposed to be a horror-comedy that revolves around the relationship between a hooligan and a ghost who falls in love with him. However, the movie fails to impress the critics and the audience with its poor execution, weak script and unfunny jokes.
The movie begins with Nanu (Abhay Deol), a land mafia agent who forcefully evicts people from their homes. He is ruthless and heartless until he meets Siddhi (Patralekha), a girl who dies in a car accident in front of him. Nanu feels guilty and takes her to the hospital, but she succumbs to her injuries. Soon, he realizes that Siddhi's spirit has followed him to his home and is trying to communicate with him. Nanu starts to develop feelings for Siddhi and tries to help her find peace. However, things get complicated when Nanu's family, friends and enemies get involved in the supernatural drama.
Nanu Ki Jaanu had the potential to be a hilarious and spooky entertainer, but it fails miserably due to its lack of originality, logic and coherence. The movie borrows heavily from other movies like Chamatkar, Bhoothnath and Stree, but does not offer anything new or interesting. The movie also suffers from poor editing, inconsistent tone and abrupt transitions. The movie tries to mix horror, comedy, romance and social message, but ends up being a mess.
The only saving grace of the movie is Abhay Deol's performance, who tries his best to carry the film on his shoulders. He brings some charm and sincerity to his character, but is let down by the weak script and direction. Patralekha has a limited role as the ghost and does not have much scope to showcase her talent. The supporting cast of Manu Rishi Chadha, Rajesh Sharma, Brijendra Kala and others are wasted in their roles.
The music of the movie is forgettable and does not add any value to the story. The cinematography by S R Sathish Kumar is decent and captures the Delhi locales well. The special effects are average and do not create any impact.
